James O’Connor helps Wallabies break 47 year drought

The Wallabies returned home yesterday on a high note after defeating South Africa on Saturday night ending a 47-year hoodoo on the Highveld with a last-gasp 41-39 win over the Springboks at Vodacom Park in Bloemfontein.

Octagon client, James O’Connor had a huge impact and proved to be an X factor for the Australian team. Following his two-try performance at Loftus Versfeld the week prior, James was once again on the score sheet stepping between three defenders to put the ball over the line after a neat back line move. In arguably his best game on the wing for Australia, James was also instrumental in setting up the tries scored by teammates Rocky Elson and Kurtley Beale. Beale went on to kick the match winning goal after the siren sending the team into wild celebration.

Coming up this weekend, the Wallabies will be facing the All Blacks in Sydney and the performances of all of the young Australian players will undoubtedly be a concern for the New Zealand side. Coach Robbie Deans after the victory said “we have to keep embracing the challenge and go on from here” with twelve months until the World Cup kicks off.
